QAY Health Promotion Project Orientation & Kick Off

Date: Friday, November 2

Time: 6:00 – 8:00pm

Location: ACAS (260 Spadina Avenue, Unit 410)

1. What is this project?

The main purpose of this project is to train youth community leaders to raise awareness and promote healthy life style in our community, which is queer Asian youth community.

Topics of health promotion can be very diverse such as smoking, alcohol, substance use, sexual health, healthy eating, self-esteem, peer pressure, or mental health.

We had Taiko Drumming Workshop, Healthy Cooking Workshop, Dodge Ball Tournament, and Comic Making Workshop last year.

Join us and come up with some cool ideas and let’s make it happen together!

2. What are we doing?

By end of June 2013, this project will:

Recruit, train and support 6 peer leaders

Organize 5 tobacco-free sports and recreation events

Provide 6 week holistic health workshop sessions in collaboration with Raging Asian Women

Host 4 participatory, interactive holistic health workshops, designed and facilitated by peer leaders

Conduct 3 outreach activities at community events to distribute the health promotion resource

Translate the health promotion resource into Asian languages and make it accessible through online social media

Also, members will be attending meetings with other youth group to update what’s happening and great training sessions.

Of course, there will be honorarium for contributing this much!

3. Who can be part of this?

We are looking for self-identified queer, East and Southeast Asian, and youth who can commit to this project in between November 2012 and June 2013!

You don’t need to have experiences, skills, or knowledge, but you should have passion and commitment! We encourage diverse youth to be part of this project!

Please don’t hesitate to email me to ask for more!

4. When is this happening?

This project is scheduled to be between November 2012 and June 2013.

Most likely, we will spend time on recruiting, team building, and training until December 2012. Events, workshops and outreach will happen from January until June 2013.

5. How to be part of this?

To be part of our project, please contact Meza (youth@acas.org) by Wednesday, October 31 with one thing that you are interested in doing for this project.

communities.

Facilitated by Ray Garcia

Telling Our Stories: Body Mapping

Friday, Oct 19, 6-8:30pm @ 519 Community Centre

Using body mapping as a way to share our stories, we come together as a
